If a therapist had to select just one piece of hanging equipment, a Southpaw Bolster Swing is the best choice. From lying on top of the bolster to hanging underneath, it can be used for a variety of progressive flexion activities. The control loops on top may be unhooked, providing a wide range of postural adjustments and balance reactions for a seated or standing child. It is strong enough to support a client and a therapist or two clients, and the 28” circumference encourages flexion patterns in most clients.
Southpaw Bolster Swings are 9" in diameter, consisting of an extremely strong aluminum core covered with multi-density foam padding and a stain-resistant vinyl cover. It also includes a built-in safety rotational device. Southpaw Bolster Swings are available in two lengths. The Standard Bolster is 48” long. The Pony Bolster is 36” in length. The Standard Bolster Swing is most popular where clients range in size from children to teenagers. The Pony Bolster is designed where size and weight are more of a concern, or where the client base consists primarily of preschoolers and other small children. Other than the length, the bolsters are designed identically.
